Equipping Leaders: A First-Hand Perspective of the dsix Internship

Hi! My name is Thiphaphone Sivilay, and I have the privilege of working as a dsix intern here at Crossings!

I will say with a full and thankful heart that dsix has been something that I have been praying about for so long and it still fills me with joy knowing that I am living it out. After I graduated, I did some bouncing around doing various jobs before I asked the Lord to fulfill the desire in my heart for camp ministry. I knew that this was not going to be an easy transition. Yet, I knew that the passion and joy I had for this ministry was not going to go away, so I was going to pursue it with all that I had.

After a few other internships, I came across the dsix program here at Crossings. After interviewing for the program, I was offered to come work on summer staff as the food service intern so I could get a better understanding of what Crossings is all about. Never having heard of Crossings before this, coming to work in the summer before the internship was the best idea. I got to see and experience the Gospel being spread across the property each day of each week. After seeing the leadership at work, I knew that I wanted to be a part of this.

It definitely has been a whirlwind since I started here at Jonathan Creek! I think one of the most important aspects of the program would be that we are able to get a good grasp of all parts contributing to camp ministry. The full-time staff takes the time to explain the tasks we are doing and why we are doing them. Part of why I love this job is that we do something different everyday. There could be a retreat group on property, we could be cleaning, we could be working on building projects or we could be working in the office. Obviously, what gets us excited is that we know the goal we are working towards: the biggest summer Crossings has ever had.

If you have a desire to spread the Gospel in every aspect of your job, enjoy being around those that have the same goal in mind, find joy in seeing young lives experience Christ’s love and want to serve in a camp atmosphere; the dsix internship is the perfect platform for you to gain perspective on all of that!
