Out-of-This-World Fun: Why Fellowship Nights at Crossings Matter
By Brooke Burrows
There’s one night every week at Crossings that campers and staff count down the days for—Fellowship Night. It’s more than just costumes and music (though we do love a good dance-off in a dinosaur suit). It’s a night where the Crossings community comes together in joyful, sometimes ridiculous, but always meaningful fun.
Whether we’re swinging through decades of music, chugging Ale-8 at a luau, or dodging foam pirates with chicken-on-a-stick in hand, these themed nights have become a highlight of the camp experience.
Why Do We Do Fellowship?
Fellowship has been a staple of Crossings long before many of us were around. But it’s more than just tradition. It’s intentional.
I asked some of our staff why Fellowship matters, and here’s what they had to say:
“It’s a shared group activity that students enjoy, and it brings people together for a time that staffers can utilize to get to know their students. There are also continued Gospel opportunities.”
“To fellowship with others and have an exclusive experience each year to get excited for. It’s a different layer of fun.”
“It allows us all to mingle over common experiences.”
“It creates hype and is exciting for the campers and staff to plan for.”
With these different perspectives, one shared heart remains: Fellowship is about Gospel-centered community. At Crossings, we believe every experience (yes, even foam pits and toilet paper games) can serve as a platform for the Gospel.
The Gospel in the Goofiness
Fellowship nights break down walls. A camper who might be nervous or reserved can come alive in a costume, laugh with someone new, and find themselves open to conversation about faith.
These experiences may include wearing a dinosaur costume, dancing to “Church Clap,” and eating chicken on a stick. Sometimes it is wearing an eye patch with a parrot on your shoulder, sharing what the Lord taught you that day with your Small Group while watching your friends play a game wrapped in toilet paper. Sometimes it is sharing the Gospel with a friend you brought to camp, soaking wet from head to toe in a pit of foam.
What’s Next? Fellowship 2025: An Interstellar Bash!
We’re already preparing for our next adventure—2025’s Fellowship: An Interstellar Bash!
Come dressed as an astronaut, alien, or even your favorite planet (Pluto included—we see you). Get ready for cosmic snacks, costume contests, and yes, bouncing on the moon. It’s going to be out of this world.
Whether you’re new to Crossings or you’ve been around for years, Fellowship Night is a reminder that joy, laughter, and Gospel love can all fit in the same evening. We can’t wait to see you there.
