We want to be your partner in ministry and help your students encounter the gospel like never before. That’s why we intentionally infuse the gospel into every detail and high-energy activity so that campers can go deeper with Christ and with each other.

John Pendleton

John Pendleton is the College and Discipleship Pastor for First Baptist Church Jacksonville, in Alabama. Before that, he was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky where he served as a Youth leader and Gospel Community Group leader. John grew up in Mobile, Alabama, and was blessed with Christian parents who faithfully led his family to attend church. His first memory of hearing the Gospel was at five years old during a lesson on The Rich Man and Lazarus from Luke 16. It impressed on him an understanding of sin, its punishment, and the reason for the cross. At twelve years old he made his first public profession of faith and repentance and was baptized shortly after. During high school, John was involved in Christian music which sparked an interest in theology, evangelism, and church ministry. Early in college he felt called to preaching and pastoral ministry, and this calling was affirmed through mentors and local church teaching. After graduating with a Bachelor’s in Philosophy from the University of South Alabama, John obtained his Master of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2018. John is married to his wife, Baylee, and enjoys reading, music, weightlifting, and spending time with his family in Alabama.

Matt Joiner

Originally from Channahon, IL, Matt Joiner grew up in church but did not become a Christian until he was 20 years old. Shortly after he began following Christ, he felt God calling him to full-time ministry. In 2007 Matt moved to Louisville, KY, where he attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, receiving his Master of Divinity in Christian Ministries. During his studies at Southern, Matt became the Student Pastor at a local church and served in that role for 10 years. During his second year at Southern, he married the love of his life, Erin. Matt and Erin have two daughters, Ezra Mae and Ivy Louise, who are an absolute joy and blessing. Matt has also served as a discipleship pastor for 6 years (2017-2023) and has recently planted a church (April 2023). Also, he is back at Southern Seminary in the final stages of completing his D.Ed.Min in Biblical Counseling. He is passionate about Jesus Christ and His Kingdom. He desires to see every Christian do their part for the Great Commission by sharing their faith and making disciples of Jesus Christ for the glory of God.

Student Camp FAQs

An important aspect in the ministry of Crossings is the relationships that students build with the adult leaders from their church. Crossings requests one adult for every five students (gender specific) in order to facilitate discipleship between students and adults that will extend beyond camp. As your students will be looking for guidance from the adults that come with your church, it is important that you bring adults who are at least 21-years-old, maturing Christians, and can be examples to your students and lead them spiritually.

The camp rate will be the same for both students and adults. Your adult leaders will stay in the same accommodations as their students overnight. During POIs and recreation activities, we encourage leaders to hang out with their students. They may even participate in activities after every student has had their chance.

Our facilities do not have accommodations for parents to bring children who are too young or too old to register for that camp session.

Registration deposits after February 28 are both non-refundable and non-transferable.

Yes. Life jackets are required at all times. We ask that all students and adults dress modestly. For females and males, shorts need to be longer than fingertips when arm is extended down the side of leg. We do not allow spaghetti strap tank tops, any tops where undergarments can be seen, or any shirts with the sides cut out. Swimsuits must be one piece, no exceptions. For females, shorts must be worn over swimsuits at all times, even in the water. For both males and females, shirts must be worn at all times when walking to and from the lake/pool.

There are no laundry facilities available on property, so bring enough clothes for your entire stay. Camp phones are available for your use if you do not have reception and need to make an emergency call. Lastly, students can purchase beverages, snacks, convenience items, books, and Crossings apparel at our Shack and General Store.

We provide basic First Aid supplies and a First Aid Coordinator. More serious injuries can visit the closest hospital for medical help.

If you have a student with food allergies, please make sure this is noted on their Crossings Medical Release Form. The staff will do everything to accommodate them and keep the kitchen staff aware of the student’s needs. Please advise your student to find a member of the kitchen staff to discuss their options during meal times. At Kids Camp, please send an Adult Leader with your student to the Food Service Director.

Crossings is an all-inclusive and any activity that your students, adult leaders, or you may want to participate in is already included in the registration price.

Arrival times are on the first day of camp between 2:00 and 4:00 PM in 10-minute windows. You will be able to sign up for a window two weeks before camp when our hospitality staffer calls you. All student camp groups must depart by 9:00 am the last day of camp. Kids camp groups must depart by 10:30 am.

Student camp is for students entering 7th grade through 12th grade.

For a list of items to bring, visit our camp prep page.
