Philippians 1:22-26, “But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose. But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better; yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake. Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy in the faith, so that your proud confidence in me may abound in Christ Jesus through my coming to you again.”
One day, we will be called home – to our true home – to live eternally with our Creator, King and Savior our Lord Jesus Christ. As awesome as that is going to be, while we are here, He has called ALL of us to be involved in “good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10), so that we bring honor and glory to Him and fulfill what He has created us to fulfill.
In Philippians 1:22-26 we see that, as excited as Paul was to go home and be with our Lord, he knew his “good works” were not finished yet and he was going to be staying around to invest further in the believers in Philippi. That is what God has called all of us to do as well – to invest in each other, as believers, and at the same time to continue to share the Gospel with the lost people around the world. We have all been called as “equippers of the saints” (Ephesians 4:11-12), and we are to help equip the saints to do “the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ.” Equipping is hard at times and it can take a lot out of us. There are even times when we think it would be so much better to go ahead and be with our Lord, but we know in our hearts that God is not finished with us here. So, we continue to help each other grow in Christ and experience the full joy of our faith in Him.
This is why Joe Ball and I are offering the Crossings Center for Youth Ministry Spring Retreat. We want the privilege of investing in you, and we want all of you to have the privilege of investing in each other as we all prepare for a very busy summer.
The gifts our Lord has given to each of us are different, just like we have different parts of our body. Every part of our body has a purpose and when our body is healthy, every part does what it is supposed to do. We, as a part of the body of Christ, must stay refreshed and revived in Him so that the entire body of Christ is healthy. So please come join Joe and myself for a time of refreshment, refueling, reviving and of course some relaxing, so we are all ready for all that is set before us in the summer of 2014. We sure hope to see you May 19-21 at the CCYM Spring Retreat!
