40th Anniversary

The ACBC National Conference this year is a don’t miss event. In the first place, they are celebrating their 40th anniversary. Their founder, Jay Adams, created the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC) to complement Christian Counseling and Education Foundation (CCEF). While CCEF had been offering training over the previous years, it became clear that a certification was necessary. Originally named the National Association of Nouthetic Counselors (NANC), they voted to change their name to Association of Certified Biblical Counselors in 2013. ACBC continues to use a three-step process of evaluation established over forty years ago, which ensures that pastors and laymen alike are properly trained to counsel with faithfulness and competence. This three-step process includes training in the basics of biblical counseling, testing in counseling and theology, and supervision to demonstrate counseling skill.

Why should you attend the conference?

This conference is for all believers. Many of ACBC’s past conferences have focused on particular themes or problems in biblical counseling. This year, they are going to revisit their theological foundations. They are going to open up the Bible and reexamine the theological themes that undergird biblical counseling. While we understand at Crossings that there may be many opinions and approaches to faithful pastoral counseling, we want to encourage you to attend this conference. We guarantee you will get solid biblical teaching, real encouragement, and biblical wisdom you can apply in your vocation — whether you are a pastor, sit behind a desk, operate a machine, or teach your kids at home.

ACBC has invited some of the most noteworthy leaders and writers in the biblical counseling world to come and teach you. If you are a pastor or youth pastor, this conference will help you understand the power of the Scriptures and the Gospel to help God’s people and transform their lives. If you are in the Indianapolis area or willing to travel, please come. We will be there exhibiting and getting equipped to do more faithful ministry here at Crossings. We encourage you to come and stop by the booth to say hello! At our booth, you can register to win an iPad Mini!

Overview of Sessions

You can view the list of breakout sessions here. Session themes include theological discussions on the doctrine of Scripture and God, sin and salvation, man and suffering, and Christ and the Holy Spirit. These five breakout sessions have many specific topics listed under them. The goal is for you to choose what best fits your needs and to then be equipped for life and to speak the truth in love through theological truth. These are going to be phenomenal Bible studies that will greatly benefit you.
